I do two things regularly that are really hard on my body: jiu-jitsu and computer work. Most of us are aware that prolonged sitting increases the risk of chronic diseases, wreaks havoc on your posture, and can cause nagging aches and pains. Despite the fact that I have a standing desk, simply standing up more frequently may not be enough to counteract the negative effects of sitting and can cause problems on its own. On top of that, my eyes get tired from staring at the computer all day or from doing close work like reading.
Because I suffer from chronic back and hip pain as a result of sitting and practicing jiu-jitsu, I must find alternative ways to work that do not involve staring at a computer. I've recently been experimenting with listening to papers while moving instead of sitting and reading them, and it's been a game changer in terms of time and my vertebrate!
