A Roundup Bonus to Start Your February
More content I've read, listened to, or otherwise found helpful this month!
Greetings, dear readers! Here's some additional content I have read or listened to this past month for my dear paid subscribers. Bring on February!
1. I loved this episode from the Cohort Sistas podcast featuring Dr. Raquel Martin. The episode is chock full of inspiring tidbits, but there are a few takeaways that I found particularly interesting.
Dr. Martin is a tenure-track faculty member who, in addition to teaching and research, runs a clinical practice and creates content on social media. She discusses how she has developed boundaries to manage all of this work.
She creates social media content about Black mental health and discusses her approach to disseminating research in a digestible and accessible format. She loves doing this work and finds it so important, even though the academy doesn’t typically value public scholarship.
She is also very forthright, stating that tenure is not her goal. She enjoys her work and the priorities she sets for herself, but she refuses to conform to the institution's values. It is so refreshing to hear her discuss her priorities in this way.
If you feel you are not doing this career the way you want to, listen to the episode. Dr. Martin offers a refreshing perspective on how she’s carved out the career she wants for herself.
