Hi Jenn—It’s so exciting to see how PNP will be leveling up in 2024! I’d love to know what coaching certification you’ll be going for. Is it with the ICF? I’m hoping to start one of their online certification programs, but I think it’ll have to be after my current project ends….
Hi Mary! Yes, I'm doing a course that qualifies for the ICF credential. I don't know how much you dug into the requirements for ICF, but they don't offer the training themselves but do the credentialing of coach education programs and individual coaches. I'm doing a certificate that qualifies for the ICF education part, but then I'll have to add the other components later if I want to do the ICF credential. I'm doing a certificate in life coaching with Symbiosis Coaching because it is more affordable than the other programs. With Symbiosis, you can do the certificate first and add the other required parts for credentialing later. I wanted to do the certificate and then decide if I wanted the credential or not before committing financially to the whole thing, which is how most programs are structured. I'd be happy to chat about my experience with Symbiosis once that gets underway in a couple weeks!
Thank you so much, Jenn!! This is hugely helpful, not least because it reassures me that there are potentially more affordable pathways into coaching out there. From what research I’ve done, it seems like a major investment of time and money (even if you only want to make it to the most basic level of ICF certification), which is why I want to continue to find out as much as possible before making that commitment. Until then, I’ll probably still take on clients, but as a ‘consultant’ rather than a coach. But like you said, the coaching training seems like a terrific way to acquire more tools and skills to help others. Good luck with your training—I hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to hearing how it goes!
