Today, I’m responding to one of my dear readers who asked this question during office hours.

I was wondering if you might write something about other major life events (on a personal scale) that impede work? I am currently pregnant (yay!!) and super sick in my first trimester. It’s coinciding with my first-ever sabbatical, which is both fortunate AND stressful because I had all these grand plans to work, but I’m struggling to accomplish anything since I feel so ill and tired. I’d love Publish Not Perish thoughts on this!

First, congratulations on your pregnancy! That’s such wonderful news, and I can imagine a mix of excitement and a bit of that “I want to get as much done as I can before the baby comes” feeling.

While I’m not a mother myself, I can certainly relate to the frustration of having big plans only to have life throw in a curveball. Pregnancy can often affect our ability to work at our usual pace, so I’ll share a bit from my own experience with health challenges.
