Impromptu Writing Sprint - Join Me!
Haven't made as much progress on your writing goals for summer? Let's do something about it together!
August has arrived, and I do not know about you, but I am wishing I had made a little more headway on my writing goals over the summer. I did not account for the FIFA Women's World Cup, which I have been watching avidly despite the fact that it is taking place in the middle of the night in my time zone. 😴 When I was making my summer plans back in June, it did not cross my mind to account for this, but I now realize that I really should have. This means I am falling a bit behind on my writing goals and my sleep!
Enter the Impromptu Writing Sprint!
My partner is out of town for 5 days starting next week, so I’m going to be doing a writing sprint to catch up on one of the projects. Would you like to join me?
What is it?
A flexible online writing retreat centered around SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), consistent check-ins, and facilitated group discussions, fostering a supportive community for productive writing.
When is it?
August 11–14, 2023
Who can participate?
Any reader with a paid PNP subscription as of 11:59 p.m. CST on August 10th. (See below for the giveaway for paid subscriptions for graduate students!) Because the retreat is asynchronous, you can attend from any time zone.
Do I have to work full-time for the entire five days?
No, you can choose how much time you want to devote to writing on any of the days. If you have plans for the weekend, are also watching futball, or have other commitments, you can adjust your SMART goals for the 5-day sprint accordingly.
If you want to keep your weekend free, you could only do Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. It’s extremely flexible! The main focus will be on creating SMART goals that you can achieve even with your other commitments.
What is the schedule/commitment for the days you participate?
Check-In 1: You will respond to a daily prompt sent overnight CST about what you want to achieve for the day and any other questions posed by the facilitator.
Writing Period: You will work on your project for a period of time that you set for the day. For some of us, this may mean 7 hours, and for some of us, this may mean 1 hour. “Writing” means anything associated with the project, such as reading, note-taking, brainstorming, outlining, drafting, editing, proofreading, etc.
Check-in 2: You will reflect on what you achieved for the day, troubleshoot any challenges, and write a comment on at least one other person’s check-in for the day.
What platform will we use to check in?
We will use the threads function on the Substack platform, which will not be publicly visible.
How do you participate?
Comment below to let us know you are in and what you would like to do with the time.
Are you a graduate student who is not a paid member?
One of our founding readers has generously donated THREE paid subscriptions for a year for grad students! So if you are a graduate student and not a paid subscriber, then include that on your post below, and three people will be chosen randomly to receive the free PNP subscriptions.
August 10 Update: The drawing is now complete, and winners have been notified.
I would love to join! Currently working on a paper manuscript. Hope to make consistent progress in the next few weeks.
I'm in. I'm a brand spanking new Asst. Prof. starting my first semester on the tenure track with a book proposal that I'd like to pull together within the next couple months. I'll be doing an hour a day, working on my outline and other proposal elements.
